As a sign of support to the Solid Waste Management Program of the Cebu Business Park and Neighboring Barangays Altruistic Alliance, Inc. (CBP-NBAAI), Cebu Holdings Inc. donated a garbage truck to Barangays Luz, Careta, Hipodromo, Mabolo, Apas and Kamputhaw.
The ceremonial turnover of the truck was made yesterday between the Cebu Holdings Inc., headed by Francis Monera, and officials from the six participating barangays, led by Barangay Captain Nida Cabrera of Barangay Luz.
The ceremony was held during yesterday's launching of the Waste Exchange at Ayala Center Cebu.
Biodegradables Ayala Center produces 2000 kilos of garbage a day, most of which are food leftovers and other biodegradable materials.
Since December last year, Barangay Luz has been collecting these wastes from the mall. Nida Cabrera said 15 residents from their barangay are handling the composting of the collected wastes.
"Most of these people are housewives who manage to recycling process. From this endeavor, each of them earns up to P6000 to 7000 a month," she said.
Barangay Luz is tasked to head the Solid Waste Management Program of CBP-NBAAI because it is known for its "Kwarta sa Basura" project for five years now.
Responsibility "We are happy to replicate this program in other barangays. We hope they will pay attention to this social responsibility to help the environment," Cabrera said.
The garbage truck was donated to expand wastes collection from Ayala Center Center to all locators and traders of the Cebu Business Park. |
