Cebu’s economists are in unison as far as the identified drivers of local economy are concern.   These are tourism, business process outsourcing (BPO) and export. If one is keen enough, you would notice that these are foreign-money driven. Tourism largely depends on foreign tourists’ spending. Obviously, BPOs and exports cater to foreign companies’ need. While tourism and BPO industries have sustained us, exports of goods have remained undesirable.

The Ayala Group of Companies yesterday held its Waste Exchange program at the Ayala Center Cebu to encourage waste diversion techniques and showcase products made out of recycled materials.

The exchange is a one-day collection activity wherein the public can bring them their recyclables. These are weighed and the recyclers pay the seller the amount corresponding to the volume of recyclables.

Cebu Holdings Inc. president Francis Monera said that Ayala will showcase the waste market fair as their contribution to the ongoing campaign to encourage recycling.

To celebrate Earth Day yesterday, the Cebu Park and officials of its neighboring barangays gathered and urged the public to go into waste segregation.

As a sign of support to the Solid Waste Management Program of the Cebu Business Park and Neighboring Barangays Altruistic Alliance, Inc. (CBP-NBAAI), Cebu Holdings Inc. donated a garbage truck to Barangays Luz, Careta, Hipodromo, Mabolo, Apas and Kamputhaw.

The ceremonial turnover of the truck was made yesterday between the Cebu Holdings Inc., headed by Francis Monera, and officials from the six participating barangays, led by Barangay Captain Nida Cabrera of Barangay Luz.

The ceremony was held during yesterday's launching of the Waste Exchange at Ayala Center Cebu.
